The Engineering Department in coordination with the On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology organized STOMO Industrial Visit for Bachelor level students in Mechanical Engineering section on 11/5/2014(Sunday) from 8.30 am to 1.30pm.

As a part of the program, the students visited Sohar Power & Desalination plant. The visit started with a brief presentation about STOMO by Mr. Yakoob, Health and Safety officer. After this, Mr. Hari Haran, Technical Training Officer, gave a brief lecture about the power generation and water treatment plant.

Students were immensely benefitted by these visits as they had the opportunity of observing and understanding the Safety Procedures that are followed in Industries and the operational and maintenance processes for producing power and converting sea water into distillate. During the visit they also observed major equipments used in the plant like 123 MW gas turbines, Hybrid burners for premix and diffusion mode operation with both natural gas and distillate fuel oil that are used for NOx control, supplementary fired HRSGs (Boilers), condensing steam turbine, and multistage flash evaporation vessel and brine heater. The operation and maintenance of the plant is carried out by STOMO under a contract with the owner SPC.
