Mechanical Engineering Students Industrial Visit
The Engineering Department in coordination with the On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology organized a visit to ARABIAN Industries for Bachelor level students in Mechanical Engineering section on 13/5/2014(Sunday) from 9.00 am to 12.00pm.
Arabian Industries located in Sohar Industrial Estate, Sultanate of Oman, manufactures pressure vessels and steel pipes of various diameters used in the Petroleum Corporation and for oil and gas transportation. The visiting team comprising of twenty three students and one faculty on reaching the Industry completed the formalities as per company policy. A company representative then gave us a brief description about the company and their manufacturing unit.
After the briefing we were taken to the working area to see the machinery that was employed and the fabrication work that was being carried out such as cladding, roll bending, welding, painting, use of over head cranes, welding, etc., For making the pressure vessel they first roll the flat plates to required diameters. After that the rolled plates are arranged in the serial order they are to be joined together by special welding to get the completed shape. Then the final product is given a quality check and painted for delivery. S.S and Duel SS is employed for making pipes while organ gas welding and clad welding is made use of for various other purposes.
The visit helped the students in enriching their knowledge about the various manufacturing processes employed in industries.
