The Engineering Department in coordination with the On Job Training Department of the College arranged Industrial Visits for Diploma and Advanced Diploma students doing course project this semester. For Diploma Electrical Engineering Students, the visits were arranged to VOLTAMP, Sohar Unit on 9th March 2014 and to Wadi Al Jizzi Power Company on 12th March 2014. For Advanced Diploma Students, visit to Majan Distribution Center was arranged on 12th March 2014. At VOLTAMP, the students visited winding, assembly and testing sections. At Wadi Al Jizzi Power Company, the students were given safety orientation by the Administration and Safety Engineers. After discussion on control system and operation of the power plant, the students were taken to the control room and a tour of the entire plant. During the visit to Majan Distribution Center, the students learnt about the safety procedures followed in the Distribution Center, remote control of Power Distribution Parameters using SCADA Platform, and practical aspects of Data Logging, turbines and generators. Of all the spots visited, students found the newly installed photo voltaic off grid power plant set up on the roof of the Majan Distribution Center, the most interesting. All the three visits helped in giving exposure to the students to real life work environment. Students found the visits a rewarding and enriching experience.
