The Engineering Department in coordination with On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology organized an Industrial Visit for its Diploma students who are under taking Projects in Electrical Power Section. A team of 19 Students from Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Sections under the supervision of a faculty member visited the Power and Desalination plants in Sohar on 15/05/2014.

The visit benefited the students in terms of the technical details provided by the company and with a better understanding of the working principles of Gas turbine and Steam turbine in power generation, Basic Mechanism of Combined Cycle Power Plant, Operation of Remineralization of Reverse Osmosis (RO)-desalted water, the process of controlling power generation parameters remotely by using SCADA platforms and Multi Stage Flash Desalination technology (MSF).

Mr. Hariharan, Operations Engineer, guided the tour and provided all information about the operations and departments inside the Power and desalination plant. The visit provided the students with a firsthand experience of the real time applications of the theoretical concepts and practical aspects they had studied during their course in Electrical power & Energy Conversion Systems.
