The Engineering Department in coordination with the On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology organized an Industrial Visit for its exit level Advanced Diploma students to Majan Distribution Substation, Asswad on 14/5/2014. The team comprised of 13 students, who are currently undertaking Projects in Electrical Power Section, and a faculty member.

Students were benefitted by the visit in understanding Safety Procedures that are to be followed in Power Distribution substations. The Majan Electricity Company deals with Electrical Power Distribution in Sohar Region provided the students with an exposure to the following: Components of Outdoor 33/11kV distribution substation, Sulfur Hexa fluoride (SF₆) Circuit breaker used for the 33kV feeders, Vacuum Circuit Breakers used in 11kV feeders, Switch gear Mechanisms and capacitor control panels , Controlling the Power Distribution Parameters remotely using SCADA Platform, Practical aspects of power distribution and Practical aspects of data logging, Transformers & switchgear operation.

Mr. Ayman Hamood Al Ruhili , Operation & Maintenance Engineer , acted as the guide and provided information regarding all the operations and departments inside the Distribution substation such as the Switching program used when a fault occurs , data logging systems, various control panels , etc. Mr.Ayman Hammod Al Ruhili is a proud alumnus of the Electrical power Section of Shinas College of Technology.

The students were able to observe the application of the theoretical concepts and Practical aspects they studied during their courses in Electrical Power System, Power Distribution Systems and Power System Analysis.
