The Industrial visit to the Shinas Municipality project (Contractor NCC Construction Company) for Diploma level students was scheduled on 12th November 2013. The Faculty representative from the college along with the students started for the visit at around 8:30am and reached Shinas Municipality at around 8:45am. In the first part of the visit, we were taken to NCC Construction Company by the Shinas Municipality Engineer, Mr. Waleed. We reached there at 09:30am. Mr. Mehboob Ali, the Joint General Manager of NCC briefed us about their current project, which is construction of the coastal highway. After that he took us to the project lab located at the base camp. In the Lab, they explained to the students about real tests, making of concrete cubes, keeping them in water for 7 days for curing and then how compressive test of that cube is done to check the strength of concrete. Likewise, all kinds of tests done by the lab were explained to the students. After the Lab visit, they took us to show a culvert under construction. The students were also shown Bar Bending Schedule & Reinforcement drawing of a Culvert. We explained to the students about shuttering work and reinforcement of a culvert. During the second part of the visit we were taken to see Asphalt work, which is being done in one part of the coastal highway. We showed the students Paver machine, PTR, Tandem Roller, etc and explained to them the use of those machinery. The main objective of the visit was to show the students the different stages of construction. All the students had good interaction with the representative.
