The Mechanical Section & Industry Link Activities Committee of the Engineering Department, in association with On Job Training Department, arranged an industrial visit for enriching the knowledge of the Bachelor level Mechanical Engineering students, on 18th June 2015, at the Oman Aluminum Rolling Company (OARC).

This company is located at Sohar Industrial Estate and the main activity of this company is to manufacture aluminum sheets of thicknesses ranging from 75 microns to 6 millimeters and maximum width of 1900 mm. These sheets can used for residential and commercial air conditioning, automotive heat exchanges, food containers, foil wrap, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.

On 18th June 2015 around 8:30 AM, we started from the Engineering Building, Shinas College of Technology. Mr. Atchaiah Sastry Kalaga and Mr. G.Raja, lecturers in the Mechanical Section, accompanied the students on this industrial visit. Sixteen students attended this visit.

Around 9:30 AM the college vehicle reached the visiting company and assembled at the reception hall of the company in an orderly way. The company officials received the guests and issued sets of safety goggles and safety earplugs to protect us from sound pollution. The company communications director, Mr. Issa Salim Al Balushi, received us and gave a detailed introduction about the company, their vision, mission, goals, etc. through an audiovisual presentation in the conference room of the company.

Mr. Mohannad, a Health and Safety expert, explained the rules and requirements of health and safety to be observed during the visit. Mr. Arif Al Alalawi, Production Engineer, explained the manufacturing process and took us around the plant and showed us the activities of various sections.

In a nutshell the visit was an overall success for our students to get a moral boost to improve their studies.
