MAJAN Industry Visit
The Engineering Department, in coordination with the On Job Training Department of Shinas College of Technology, organized an industrial visit to the Majan Electricity Company distribution substation (33/11KV) at Aswad, Shinas on 12 Feb. 2015.
A group of eleven students from Advanced Diploma along with Mr. Shanmugam Durairaj ( Lecturer/ Electrical) joined in the visit.
In the first part of the visit, the students went throughout the outdoor site of substation to observe the structure and various components of the substation like feeders, isolators, SF6 circuit breakers, power transformers , voltage transformers, and current transformers. The assistant distribution engineer, Mr.Ayman Hamoud Al –Ruhili of MEC, explained to our students the structure and operation of the substation, along with a single line diagram, identifying the incoming and outgoing feeders.
In the second part, students were taken into the indoor site of substation. They took part in observing the 20MVA 33/11.5KV transformer RTCC panel ,415V LVAC panel board, capacitor control panel and other control related panel boards and meters. Mr.Ayman also explained the remote controlling of power distribution parameters. He also clarified the feeder change over operation, load scheduling and power factor control, switchgear operation, and transformer operation.
During the visit to the site, Al –Rushhi and his assistant explained the safety rules and emergency exit location, the duties and responsibilities during operation and maintenance of the substation components.
Our students were very interactive in asking and clarifying their doubts during the visit. The visit was very useful to our students for gathering information. The trip fulfilled the objective of the industry visit, particularly regarding the power distribution substation.
