Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah, (Head of Civil Section),and Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq along with five students visited the ELC building in SHCT on 9 Feb. 2015.

In the first part of the visit the students went throughout the site to observe the construction activities being done during their visit. The students spent two hours for this visit from 12:00 noon until 2 o’clock. During the site visitof the ELC building, they met the site engineer who told us about the process of soil filling on the ground floor. Soil is built up to 3.6 m. in layers of 20 cm thickness, which should be compacted in the correct way.During the visit to the site, Dr.Mahmoud and the Project Manager explained the duties and responsibilities of the project manager and the consultancy engineer as well as thecommunicationprocedures followed between them.

Students asked about the methodsto ensure that the compacting was done in the proper way. Dr.Mahmoud explained the procedure of soil compacting and the procedure of checking the level of each layer.The students askedquestions about the bitumen coat on the foundations

The answer was that the bitumen coating is forisolation against water & humidity.Students collected information about the project.Students also raiseda question about the huge number of columns in the project. Students took some pictures during the student visit.
