BSD Image-Nation Competition at UTAS Shinas
The Business Studies Department at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences Shinas hosted a BSD Photo Competition with the theme Image-Nation on Tuesday 7th June 2022. This was the first initiative of the department to promote the Al-Batinah Region as a tourism and investment destination by using beautifully captured photographs. The competition was sponsored by two companies, Technical and Administrative Training Institute and Sohar Aluminum Company. The primary objective of this competition was to encourage participants, particularly the students of UTAS Shinas, to be creative and communicate an idea using photography to promote the tourism industry and investment opportunities in the North Al Batinah Region. The competition sought to promote tourism potential, culture, landscapes, heritage, and community, to local and foreign travelers and investors.
The competition started with the collection of photograph entries received between April 13th to June 1st 2022. Around 508 photographs were received from students and faculty members, from which 174 photos were presented in the exhibition for final judging. The judging criteria was based on the uniqueness of techniques, concept, creativity, visual perspective and thematic relevance. The competition was judged by Mr. Humaid Rashid Hamdan Al-Zidi Assistant Director for Heritage and Tourism Administration Ministry, in Al-Buraimi Region, Ms. Noura Mohammed Said Al-Bassamiya, HR specialist and representative of Technical and Administrative Training Institute, Mr. AbdulAziz Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Head of Tourism Committee In North Al-Batinah Region, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Oman, Mr. Jassem Mohammed Rashid Al-Alawi, Senior Business Development Specialist, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Ms. Shayma Al-Gafriya a Technician at UTAS –Shinas. The ceremony ended by honoring the panel of judges with mementos, and five winners were awarded certificates, mementos and cash prizes.
