IT students win in Creative Project Competition

The course project, Online Voting for Shura Council, developed by Moza Amer Al-Badi, Hajer Abdullah Al-Shehi and Aida Ali Al-Sheidi bagged 2nd place in the Creative Project for Information Technology competition during the 1st Students Creative Forum held at Oman International Exhibition Centre in Muscat last May 8 - 10, 2012. The said event was organized and sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education and participated by college students in the fields of Engineering, Information Technology, Applied Sciences, and other technical areas across the Sultanate. The winning entry is a web-based application that simulated the voting process during the Shura Council Election in Oman. It includes voters registration module and actual voting process. The said project was supervised by Mr. Anthony Madlambayan. The IT Department sent four course projects for technical panel review. Out of the four entries, three projects were qualified and passed based on the technical set standards. Aside from ShCT, one entry from SQU and one from Gulf College were qualified and passed the requirements. The multimedia applications like ShCT Virtual Tour System developed by Walaa Rashid Al-Nofli, Aysha Khamis Al-Yahyai, Fatma Khalfan Al-Kharusi, and Zainab Rashid Al-Kindi and XO Game Project developed by Kawla Saeed Al-Mamari were among the top five finalists. ShCT Virtual Tour System features a mapping capability of allowing the end-user to navigate the various areas in the ShCT campus. This information kiosk application aims to help visitors, new staff, and new students to be familiar with the various facilities of the college and to access them easily. On the other hand, the O Game Project is an application that allows two (2) users to play the popular tic-tac-toe game. It provides a board that allows players to place their Xs and Os in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The application also tracks playing statistics of each player. Both projects were supervised by Mr. Gharib Al-Matroushi, Head of the Department, who also accompanied the students during the forum.
