The Industrial Link Committee of the IT department, in cooperation with the OJT department, arranged an industry visit for students to Sohar Aluminium last November 9, 2015.

The Advanced Diploma students of Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor students of Software Design Methods, and Bachelor students of Disaster Recovery and Risk Management visited the IT Section of the said company.

Mr. Justin Rajasekaran, lecturer, accompanied the students.

Mr. Suleiman Al Mamari, one of the software developers in the IT section, talked about the company in general as well as the roles and responsibilities of the IT section. Mr. Al Mamari also explained the application developed as an in-house project.

Meanwhile, Automation Engineer Mr. Ahmed discussed the automation of machines, control panels, PLC, Disaster & Recovery and Risk management; whereas, Mr. Prakash presented about servers and how backup is done.

IT Manager Othman Al Balushi and Business Applications Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamari facilitated the concluding sessions as they gave inspirational and motivational speeches to the students on how to enter, compete, and shine in the competitive job market.

The said educational tour aimed to make the IT students: a) understand how the automated / programmed machine works, b) get acquainted with the different software tools being used, c) gain knowledge on reducing and/or preventing disasters and disaster recovery, and d) understand how to handle risk management.
