IT Department holds induction program for new students

If you have concerns, kindly direct them first to your department before coming to my office,we have the best and qualified staff here in the college, then interact with them often so that you will learn more from them always give respect to the people around you, these words were just a part of the inspiring message given by Dr. Ali Al-Mughairi, the College Dean, during the induction-orientation program conducted for the new IT students last Monday, October 15 at the College Theater. The induction aimed to orient the students on the academic system, policies and procedures, student services, and student activities. The program was started by Ms. Farida Rehan, HoS-Math, by welcoming the college council, staff and students. Mr. Aymen Hamed Al-Kiyumi, Asst. Dean for Academic Affairs, encouraged the new students to be ambitious. He emphasized the importance of having ambition to be successful in life. Dr. Mary Jane Aragon, HoS-Networking, gave a brief background about the department and some figures on student enrolment, employment of graduates, and number of staff per section. Also, she presented the staff members by section. Afterwards, Ms. Aysha Al-Jabri, HoS-IT, presented the academic system, policies and procedures, and other academic-related concerns that will guide students properly on their understanding about probation, CGPA/SGPA computation, TOEFL, moving to the next level, mixing level, absences, withdrawing a course, etc. Then, Dr. Mary Jane gave an overview on Diploma in Information Technology by discussing its goals, expected knowledge and skills sets, job opportunities, and course flow. Ms. Marilou Paderes, ETC staff member, spoke on the support and e-services their department is offering. She presented the use of e-learning, e-brary, student e-mail system, and the help desk or workshop services while Mr. Edgar Dalan gave an overview on student activities in the department and highlighted the achievements reaped by IT students in the last academic year 2011-2012.
