IT Department conducted ICDL Training and Exams
As part of ShCT's acknowledgement that the industry and local community are important stakeholders, the IT Department conducted a two-week ICDL training and administered ICDL certification exams to 29 employees from private companies, a university and ShCT from April 21 to May 2. From the 29 participants, 5 staff came from Majan Electricity, 7 from STOMO, 1 from Arabian Industries, 2 from Oman Methanol, 2 from Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills, 1 from SIE, 2 from Sohar University, 2 from Vale, 1 from Jindal Shadeed, and 6 from ShCT.
The IT Deparment's ICDL Committee, headed by Mr. Francis Abraham, trained these 29 employees in the 7 modules. Mr. Prasanna, Mr. Santosh, and Mr. Syed facilitated the first module on Basic Concepts of Information Technology and second module on using the computer and managing files. Ms. Vithya, Ms. Vani, and Mr. Umesh discussed the topics on word processing while Mr. Justin, Mr. Narayanan, and Mr. Gulam handled the fourth module, spreadsheet. The group of Mr. Edgar, Mr. Kuresh and Mr. Taj tackled the database part while Ms. Lilibeth, Mr. Greg, and Ms. Madhu explained the topics on presentation. Mr. Francis and Mr. Syed Mehr facilitated the last module on web browsing and communication.
ICDL certification exams were also administered after these modules were given. As to date, 15 out of 27 examinees completely passed the 7 module exams.
The department is looking forward to conduct similar training to other companies and partners as part of its commitment for quality IT education.
