The Educational Technology Center (ETC) of Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) conducted a one-hour training on ActivBoard along with the softwares ActivInspire and Open Sankore at Room E-223, Engineering Building, on Nov. 19. Dubbed Lighting the Flame of Learning, the training was attended by 19 newly-hired faculty from the different academic departments. ETC staff Marilou Bauzon Paderes trained the newly-hired lecturers and encouraged them to make use of ActivInspire in preparing interactive and engaging lessons. \"You have to try ActivInspire and use the Activboard. Experiment on the software and discover its features as these may help you in teaching our students more effectively,\" Paderes said. \"Just bear in mind that you must always use the Activboard pen; never write on the Activboard with a whiteboard marker as the marks would stain it,\" Paderes added. Meanwhile, Paderes also introduced Open Sankore, a free open source software which may be used with ActivBoard, in case the proprietary software (ActivInspire) is not available. In 2010, ShCT purchased several units of Activboard and its software ActivInspire, a component of ActivClassroom developed by IT company Promethean Inc. ETC spearheads Activboard training every semester to train the newly-hired faculty of the college.
