Mr. Aquiles Bazar III and Ms. Rhona Aguilar-Waga spearheaded a workshop on teaching vocabulary, which was held at the V.I.P. Lounge, April 15, and 16, 2014. Mr. Bazar discussed the importance of vocabulary in foreign/second language acquisition especially in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). In addition, he introduced Explicit Instruction as an alternative approach to teaching vocabulary. In relation to this, Ms. Waga presented the PPP (Presentation-Practice-Production) method that could be used under the umbrella of Explicit Instructions. The workshop allowed the participants to revisit several strategies employed in teaching vocabulary to EFL learners. The said workshop was an offshoot of the action research "The Effects of Explicit Instruction on Vocabulary Development for Level 1 Students of Shinas College of Technology," conducted by Mr. Bazar, Ms. Waga, Mr. Sarath Samaranayake, Ms. Emma Bondal and Ms. Marilyn C. Gallema during the second semester of Academic Year 2013-2014.
