Business Studies Department Conducts Workshop on Basics of Effective Presentation
Mr. Vivek, Lecturer, Business Studies Department facilitated a workshop entitled "Basics of Effective Presentation" held on March 27, 2014 at the Multi Purpose Hall. The one hour plus workshop was initiated by the Staff Professional Development Committee headed by Mr. Joshy John.
The workshop which started at 8:00 am was attended by the faculty of the Department of Business. As a seasoned trainer, Mr. Vivek began the workshop by laying the ground rules which is basic to any training, especially in a corporate setting. He then challenged the participants through a quiz which served as a jumpstart to his delivery. He stressed that a gap analysis or need analysis should be the defining task of any training as it would dictate the proceedings by acknowledging what is needed and what is expected, in short evaluate the training. The facilitator clearly stipulated and explained the different phases of training emphasising the various resources or materials needed in each phase namely: pre-training, during the training and post training.
He asserted that the audience stood to gain more knowledge based on the core experience of the trainer, which is technically known as experiential component, without withstanding the impact of visual and verbal delivery of training topics. The workshop drew mainly on the personal experience of the facilitator gained from a decade of conducting training in the industry. Mr. Vivek also shared the dos and don’ts in venue preparation, delivery, handling and engaging of the audience, proper demeanour, and various other practical tips.
The participants also shared information gained through their personal experiences as trainers themselves or as participants.
