Amendment of the By-Laws Workshop for Business Studies Staff

A workshop, a meeting, an information drive or an awareness campaign; no matter what it was termed, one and all turned up so that ignorance may not lead to errors. Mr. Cirilo Mirano and Mr. Dhanasekaran had expertly and patiently shared their knowledge and expertise on the issue/topic at hand. The activity was held at the Multi Purpose Hall of the College situated at the Engineering Building. The workshop ran for two hours, from 8:30 to 10:30 in the morning. The Asst. Dean for Academic Affairs, Mr. Ayman Hamad Said Al Kiyumi, and Mr. Ali Saif Al-Harthy, the Assistant Dean for Administration and Financial Affairs, were present and gave their appreciation of the proceedings. Mr. Ayman emphasized the role of advisers. He highlighted that as advisers we should help the students by explaining to them the consequences/advantages of choosing a particular course, guiding them through probation, explaining and demonstrating to them the computation of their CGPA, encouraging and motivating them to study, and so on and so forth in short: do everything that benefits the students. He capsulated his speech into the following three: Help the Students, Do not ignore them and, Do your job properly. The hall reverberated with the words of Mr. Al-Harthy when he told everyone that We are a Learning Organization, Ask if you do not know, Ask and refer to the By-Laws” and, In any decisions you make, you are accountable, you should know the consequences. Mr. Cirilo had explained the following concern: rules regarding withdrawal from elected courses, repetition of courses, academic probation, study postponement, cheating cases, absence during mid-term and final exam. He also demonstrated how to compute the CGPA. On the other hand, the registration system was tackled by Mr. Dhanasekaran. He expounded the conditions concerning exiting, probation, OJT requirements, dismissal and re-admissions concerning students. After two hours of diligent listening to the learned speakers, the Faculty Staff of Business Studies Department left much the wiser and more determined than ever to carry out their role more diligently as Advisers.
