Winners of the competition will be assigned a coach/consultant to prepare for competitions within Oman, and outside the country.

QUIZ BEE CONTEST GUIDELINES

 

A.  Participants:

  1. The contest is open to any bona fide students of the Department of Information Technology of Shinas College of Technology.
  2. The quiz bee is individual in nature.
  3. The contest shall have two (2) levels: Junior Level and Senior Level. Junior Level will be participated in by Diploma 1 and Diploma 2 students, while Senior Level by Advanced Diploma and Bachelor students.
  4. Interested participants shall register personally or by e-mail to the following Quiz Bee Committee members:

B.  Scope and Coverage:

  1. The quiz bee shall cover general questions on software engineering, database, networking, and general programming.

2.     There shall be two (2) phases for each level: Elimination Phase and Final Phase.

 

C.  Elimination Phase:

1.     The Elimination Phase is written in nature and shall be participated in by all registered students.

2.     The Elimination Phase shall be conducted on Tuesday, 03 February 2015 at 12:00-1:00 pm in Room A-150.

3.     There shall be twenty (20) questions to be answered by the participants within thirty (30) minutes.

4.     The papers will be evaluated by the Quiz Bee Committee members and to be verified by the Head of the Department.

5.     The top five (5) participants from each level (Junior Level and Senior Level) shall join in the Final Phase.

 

D.  Final Phase:

  1. The Final Phase shall be conducted on Tuesday, 10 February 2015 at 12:00-2:00 pm.
  2. There shall be five (5) teams, each team composing of two (2) members: one (1) from each level (Junior and Senior Level) coming from those who successfully made it in the Elimination Phase.
  3. There shall be three (3) rounds: Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3.
  4. There shall be ten (10) questions in Round 1, ten (10) in Round 2, and five (5) in Round 3.  Three (3) questions shall be given in cases of ties. Each question weighs one (1) mark in all three (3) rounds.
  5. A Quiz Master, a Timer, and a Scorer shall be assigned to facilitate the competition.
  6. A team composed of the Head of the Department and the Heads of Sections shall evaluate and give decisions in cases of queries and complaints.

 

E.   Quiz Bee Proper:

  1. Cellular or mobile phones are not allowed during the competition.
  2. The Quiz Master shall read the question while the question itself will be flashed on a screen for the contestants to see.
  3. All answers must be written on the slate boards provided for each team.  It shall be raised when the team presses the buzzer or when the allotted time is over. Failure to do so will signal a warning for the first offense and disqualification for the second.
  4. Any question or query to the correctness of the answers should be raised before the start of the next question.
  5. In Round 1 (Open Buzzer), the questions are open for any team to answer. The first team to press the buzzer gets the chance to answer the question. In case of a wrong answer from the first team, the next team that pressed the buzzer gets the chance. If still the second team did not give the correct answer, no more chance is given for the other teams.
  6. In Round 2 (Choice Buzzer), each team will be given their own question. If the team gets the correct answer, that team gets the mark. But if the team’s answer is wrong, the first team from the other four (4) teams to press the buzzer gets the chance to answer the question. In case the said team gives a wrong answer, no other chances are given to the remaining teams.
  7. In Round 3 (No Buzzer), each team will be given their own question. If the team gets the correct answer, that team gets the mark. But if the team’s answer is wrong, no other chances are given to the remaining teams.

 

F.   Declaration of Winners:

  1. The team that garnered the highest marks shall be declared as the winner.
  2. In cases of ties, three (3) clincher questions will be raised to break the tie. The mechanics for the Clincher Round will be the same as that of Round 1.
  3. The winning team shall be assigned a coach/consultant to prepare for competitions within Oman and outside the country as well.
