Industry Visit to Sohar Aluminium Provides Students with Real-World Insights into IT Applications
On 4th December 2023, the IT Department's Industrial Engagement Committee organized an industrial tour to Sohar Aluminium. Nineteen students participated, visiting Sohar Aluminium, a leading aluminum producer in Oman, to gain practical insights into information technology (IT) applications and explore potential careers in the field.
During the visit, students engaged in a comprehensive training session led by Mr. Pavan Gorki, with assistance from Ms. Sumiayah Al Saadi. The session covered various IT topics, including the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Business Applications, Software Programming, and Database Management. Experienced IT professionals from Sohar Aluminium provided hands-on experience, allowing students to apply IT concepts to real-world scenarios.
Students witnessed firsthand how IT is seamlessly integrated into the company's operations, observing its role in production, supply chain management, and customer relationship management. This experience deepened their understanding of the pivotal role IT plays in the manufacturing industry.
In addition to the training, students had the opportunity to engage with IT professionals from Sohar Aluminium, discussing career paths and gaining insights into their day-to-day work. Dr. Prasanna Ranjith, who accompanied the students, emphasized the benefits of this interaction. "It provided our students with a realistic perspective on working in the IT industry and helped them identify the skills and experience needed to pursue their career goals."
Overall, the industry visit to Sohar Aluminium was highly successful. Students not only gained valuable insights into the practical applications of IT but also explored potential career opportunities in the IT sector, enhancing their understanding of IT's critical role in manufacturing.
