IT Lecturer receives best paper award
Mr. C. Prasanna Ranjith, IT Lecturer, received the Best Paper Award on IT in the recently concluded National Symposium on Business and Information Technology 2014 held on February 11th at Al-Musanna College of Technology. His paper A study on Optimizing Routing in MANET using Genetic Algorithms provides an overview of some protocols used in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) such as dynamic source routing (DSR), ad hoc on-demand distance vector routing (AODV) and TORA, fish eye state routing protocol (FSR), ZPR, WRP, among others. Also, it aimed to make observations about the possibilities of using genetic algorithms in addressing routing issues in MANET. According to the paper, the Shortest Path Generic Algorithm (SPGA) provides the shortest path route in a fewer iteration. Accordingly, it seeks to improve the SPGA in order to cope with the various issues in MANET routing. Further, other parameters such as security, power and stable routing are to be considered in route-discovery.
Dr. Mary Jane Aragon, HoS-IT, of Shinas College of Technology and Dr. Claduwel Newton from Bishop Heber College in Tamil Nadu, India, co-authored the above-mentioned paper. The event was attended by some lecturers both from the IT and Business Studies departments.
