As an immediate action to its commitment to produce quality academic research, the IT Department conducted a paper presentation of the two action researches conducted by its staff last Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the College Theater. Mr. Edgardo Dalan Jr., Dr. Lemuel Nalugon, and Mr. Narayanan Neellakandan presented the action research entitled “Students and Teachers’ Perception on the Implementation of Journal Writing in the Course Formal Logic in Shinas College of Technology”. The said action research aimed to determine the relevance of journal writing as a reflective assessment tool in the Formal Logic classes during the 2^nd Semester, AY 2013-2014. Other proponents of the action research are Mr. Gregory Danguilan, Ms. Vithya Padmini, Mr. Aijaz Ahmed, and Mr. Saleem Abdul Samad Raja.

Mr. Deogracias Joaquin presented his action research entitled “The Effects of Unannounced Quizzes in the Students’ Class Performance in Calculus I”. In his research, the proponent shared that unannounced quizzes encourage students to come to their class prepared by studying with their fellow students. Also, he mentioned that the probability of getting a passing mark is around 76% and further that there was an improvement in the class attendance.

After each presentation, the audience actively participated by asking questions and sharing their ideas on those researches. In the event, Dr. Mary Jane D. Aragon, HoD-IT, gave the opening remarks while Dr. Joey Masirag, HoS-IT, gave the closing remarks. Dr. Ali Mughari, College Dean, Ms. Aysha Mater Al-Jabri, Asst. Dean for Academics, and Ms. Fawziya Al-Jabri, QAU Coordinator, graced the event. Ms. Ferlisa Lavador served as the moderator.
