IT Department inducts new Diploma students

"Understand the real meaning of being a student, know the importance of using the library or having a reading habit, be a well-rounded individual, mark is not the end of all things...", said Mr. Ali Mahmood Al-Bulushi, Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, in his address to the new batch of Diploma in IT students during the induction program held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the College Theater. After Ms. Faridah Rehan, HoS of Mathematics, welcomed the guests and participants, Dr. Mary Jane Aragon, HoD of IT, profiled the department and presented some relevant statistics about the IT department. Mr. Madhavan, IT Department Registrar, enlightened the students about the academic systems, the policies and procedures on advising, withdrawal, probation and other relevant matters, following which Mr. Edgardo Dalan, Program Coordinator for Software Engineering, oriented the students about the Diploma in IT program Ms. Aysha Mater Al-Jabri, Assistant Dean for Academics, stressed on the importance of knowing, following, and obeying the rules stated in the College By-laws in her inspirational talk. She said that the new students were already winners because they had already undergone and succeeded in the rigid test of moving from foundation level to the post-foundation level. Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Alawi, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, also gave a motivational speech. Mr. Thanigaivel Ganesan, shed light on the student activities while Mr. Sidney Souribio talked about the services offered by Educational Technology Centre (ETC). Ms. Lilibeth Decena, Area Coordinator for General Programming, gave the closing remarks. Ms. Shija Gangadharan, Lecturer in Mathematics, served as the master of ceremonies. IT faculty members were in attendance and lent support to the entire program. This induction program aimed to inform the new diploma students about the academic system, policies and procedures, specializations, available student services and support, and student extra-curricular activities.
