ELC SPDT organizes 'Towards Paperless Classroom' workshop
The Staff Professional Development Team of the English Language Center (ELC) organized a workshop entitled “Towards Paperless Classroom” at the Multi-Purpose Hall, on the January 17, 2019.
ELC lecturers Ms. Safiya Al Ajmi and Ms. Safiya Al Makhmari served as resource speakers and discussed the importance of using technology-based activities to lessen the use of paper in the classroom.
They introduced mentimeter, an online learning tool where both teacher and students use their mobile phones to interact with each other. Using the website www.menti.com , they demonstrated activities that can be used by lecturers as an icebreaker, brainstorming for reading and writing tasks, paraphrasing tasks, teaching vocabulary, and many more.
As reiterated by the speakers, this type of activity encourages shy students to actively participate in class since they use their mobile phones to answer questions as one class. Teachers can also give immediate feedback because answers are projected on the screen.
Mr. Ali Al Balushi, the Head of ELC, handed the speakers with certificates and thanked them for sharing their expertise on the topic.
