The English Language Centre at UTAS - Ibra organized the Second National Symposium on English Language Teaching on 4th May 2023. The symposium aimed to provide a platform for English language teachers and researchers to share their experiences, insights, and research findings related to English language teaching. Presenters from various universities in Oman, including Salalah, Sohar, Muscat, and Shinas UTAS, as well as Nizwa Uni and SQU, participated in the conference.Saif Said Bakhit Al Dhahli, ELC Lecturer from UTAS Shinas, delivered a presentation titled "Teachers' Pedagogic Strategies and Students' Willingness to Communicate" Mr. Saif Al Dhahli's paper addressed the issue of Omani and Arab University students' reluctance and unwillingness to voluntarily communicate in English in the classroom. He highlighted the unique collectivistic culture, motivation, L2 use anxiety, L2 competence, and teacher-student rapport as significant variables affecting the students' eagerness to speak. Dr. Salim Bani-Orabah, Director of the English Language Centre, UTAS - Ibra, appreciated the presenters' efforts and distributed appreciation certificates to them.
