The SPDT at the English Language Centre hosted an online workshop titled “Teaching English in the Foundation Program: Challenges and Solutions” Newcomer ELC Lecturer, Dr Hani Al Balushi delivered the workshop on 21^st September 2021, which was based on a qualitative study of semi-structured interviews with 17 English teachers from the English Language Center at UTAS Shinas. The study explored the challenges faced by first year students in the foundation program, from the perspective of the English teachers. The challenges suggested in the study related to the limited use of English outside the classrooms, lack of English basics, low motivation, time management and self-learning. Dr Hani highlighted these challenges in his workshop and discussed the possible solutions for them. The interactive workshop was also an opportunity to present ideas for future research. Mr Hamdan, HOS for the ELC thanked Dr Hani for sharing his valuable insights and proposals for future research.
