ELC’s SPDT holds ‘Workshop on Teaching Vocabulary’
The Staff Professional Development Team (SPDT) of the English Language Center (ELC) organized a ‘Workshop on Teaching Vocabulary’ on December 13, 2018, at F-023, ELC Building.
ELC lecturer Mr. Peter Copperwheat served as the resource speaker.
He introduced the topic of ‘Teaching Vocabulary’ with a brief overview about why teaching vocabulary is an important classroom activity in its own right.
The workshop began by looking at which vocabulary items should be given priority. He also touched upon the advent of technology such as the use of computer corpora with predictive lexical items as a useful resource.
SPDT was encouraged to conduct workshop on the topic in order to raise awareness on why teaching vocabulary is important and to encourage lecturers to use strategic methods to incorporate teaching vocabulary and to share practical ideas with peers.
At the end of the workshop, ELC Head Mr. Ali Abdullah Al- Balushi handed a certificate of appreciation to Mr. Peter for his efforts in conducting the workshop.
ELC’s SPDT, the organizing team, is headed by Mr. Ossama Nostafa Sayed Abdulrahman, under the Staff Support Committee lead by Mr. Given Chakalisa.
