Business department initiates the first leg of its Microteaching teaching practice sessions
In a continuous effort to improve the teaching and learning process of the Business Department, the Marketing Section headed by Joefrelin C. Ines, Phd, MBA, IACMP, supported by Ms. Moza Al-Shihi, Head of the Department initiated Microteaching Teaching Practice Session to enhance the teaching competencies of its academic staff through peer feedback, constructive criticism and evaluation of teaching demonstration based on some predetermined criterion for student-centered learning practices. This project has been conceptualized based on the results of peer to peer evaluation and student’s evaluation, which requires due attention and to formulate corrective measures. Initially, the project is targeting lecturers from the marketing section as an experimental approach to identify possible areas for improvements through sharing of experience and expertise of its own set of lecturers.
The first batch of lecturers in the event were attended by Ms. Nithya, Mr. Debapriyo, Mr. Ansari and Dr. Cirilo and facilitated by Dr Joef. The facilitator elucidated and reiterated, to the first batch of lecturers, on how student-centered learning practices could be implemented in delivering the course and its impact on student engagement through inspiring, motivating and reaching the students in order to promote better learning and students transformation from passive to active learners. A 10-minute teaching demonstration was then conducted by each participant and constructive criticisms were noted and discussed. In addition, it has been emphasized to the participants that the main goal of the project is to improve the teaching performance of the academic staff and that the project’s effectiveness can be measured through a comparison of pre and post student evaluation as well as peer to peer evaluation. Finally, the participants found microteaching very informative and advantageous.
