SQU educator facilitates ELLT workshops
Dr. Hashil Al-Sadi, a lecturer at the Center for Preparatory Studies of Sultan Qaboos University, facilitated two English Language Learning and Teaching (ELLT) workshops at the Multi-Purpose Hall, ShCT on April 13, 2017.
In the first workshop titled “Learner Autonomy: What is it and How to Promote it in Learners?” Dr. Al-Sadi argued that learner autonomy is one of the key goals of 21st century education.
The workshop facilitator also suggested some ways of fostering autonomy as he posited that “learner autonomy is dependent on teacher autonomy.”
In the second workshop, Dr. Al Sadi dwelt on “The Dilemma of Assessment and Research in ELT: What Do We Actually Test and Research.”
Dr. Al-Sadi explained the “Learning Iceberg”as he presented the taxonomy of significant learning as proposed by Fink (2013).
“Teachers and learners are partners in the learning process,” concluded Dr. Al-Sadi, the eldest brother of ELC HOS for English Language Programs Mr. Ahmed Al-Sadi.
After the second workshop, ELC lecturers Mr. Hussein Al Mamari and Mr. Salim Al Badi conveyed their gratefulness to Dr. Hashil who was their college instructor at SQU.
Mr. Hussein awarded the SQU educator a plaque of appreciation.
Meanwhile, ELC Head of Section for Curriculum and Teaching Methodology Mr. Nasser Al Hinddasi expressed gratitude to Dr. Hashil, the organizers, and the participants.
ELC’s Staff Professional Development Team organized the workshops.
