ELC lecturer Mr. Ossama Mostafa Sayed presented a workshop during the 2nd ELT Professionals Network 2016 Conference held at Military Technological College, February 19-20, 2016.

During his workshop, the presenter highlighted some issues that teachers face when teaching lexis at tertiary level such as abstract words, idioms and phrasal verbs.

Mr.  Ossama presented effective vocabulary teaching strategies that could help teachers solve those problems and help keep their students actively engaged in the learning process.

During the workshop, the presenter demonstrated STARR model, which stands for Select, Teach, Activate, Relate and Revisit. According to him, STARR provides a framework for teachers as they plan vocabulary instruction.

The workshop was one of the presentations during the two-day conference themed ‘Engaging, Educational, Effortless: Ideas and activities in the classroom’ and organized by the British Council, Oman.
