Engineering students win project competitions
The winning project, Digital Controller and Energy Saver, was awarded second place. Members of the team were Ahmed Al Kaabi and Ahmed Al Shamsi, both Advanced Diploma students in Electrical Engineering. The device was chosen because of its applications in large power utilizing firms and its function to reduce the amount of power consumption. It is highly relevant to the current situations of the world where non-renewable energy is at stake. The project was supervised by Dr. Carlos Santos, a former lecturer of the College and was accompanied by Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah, Head of Engineering Department and Mr. Hothayfa Mazin.
The other entry of Ahmed Al Shamsi and Ahmed Al Kaabi also won second place. The entry is entitled, Wireless Controlled Mobile Device, where a camera was attached to a car and a helicopter. Both devices are controlled wirelessly and monitored through a personal computer. The project was supervised by Mr. Aaras Y. Kraidi, lecturer from Electrical Section and Mr. Mohammed Waadalla Dawod.
Aside from the electrical field, another project was presented by Mohammed Al Risi, an Advanced Diploma Mechanical Engineering student. His project is entitled, Syringe Hydraulic System Pump, which is a prototype of a pumping device. Likewise, Hani Al Maktomi, a Diploma 2 Civil Engineering student, presented an animation design of the College and the Engineering Department using 3DMax.
At the end of the exhibition, the students were awarded with cash prizes and certificates of recognition and participation. Shinas College of Technology was given an Armor Award and a certificate of appreciation. The students, who participated in the competition and exhibition, are members of the Engineering Club.
