The Engineering Department celebrated its 5th Engineering Day with the theme, Energy Scenario and Renewable Options in the Sultanate of Oman last Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Shinas College of Technology. This event was headed by Dr. Mahmoud Khazalah, Head of Engineering Department. Guests from various educational institutions, public and private sectors attended and graced the affair. A seminar on Solar Electricity in Oman Todays Requirements and Tomorrows Challenges was delivered by Dr. Hussain Kazem, Chairman, RESTRG of Sohar University. A showcase of projects by Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students was officially opened by Dr. Ali Al Mughairi, Dean of Shinas College of Technology and assisted by Mr. Ayman Al Kiyumi, Asst. Dean for Academic Affairs and Mr. Darwish Al Kalbani, Asst. Dean for Student Affairs. The forum entitled Road to Industry Interaction between Technical and Academic Representatives was considered as a significant part of the event. This was participated by public and private sectors namely, Sohar Aluminum, Wadi Al Jizzi Power Company, Majan Electric Company, Public Authority for Electricity and Water, Shinas Municipality, Oman Methanol and Siemens Oman. Likewise, academic staff and students from Al Musanah College of Technology, Higher College of Technology, Nizwa College of Technology, Salalah College of Technology, Sohar University and Ibra College of Technology took part in the forum. Topic presentations entitled, Grid Connected Sohar Power, Possibility and Challenges in Oman by Mr. Arun Gopinath, Lecturer in Electrical Power Engineering and Waste to Energy by Dr. C. Subramanian, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering were delivered in the afternoon. The organizers recognized and awarded the keynote speaker and the participants for their invaluable time and contribution during the event.
