On Tuesday, March 7th, 2023, as part of the English Language Centre Community Engagement, students from the English Club at UTAS Shinas delivered a presentation at the ROP GCC Traffic Safety Week, held at Safeer Mall in Sohar. The presentation aimed to raise awareness on two critical issues in Oman's roads - drifting cars and using mobile phones while driving. During the event, the students emphasized the need to stop and think about the consequences of drifting (or joyriding) and using mobiles while driving. They highlighted the dangers and how reckless driving can cause accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. They also spoke about the importance of following traffic rules and regulations to ensure the safety of everyone on the road. The ROP GCC Traffic Safety Week was a week-long awareness campaign aimed at promoting road safety and reducing the number of accidents on Oman's roads. The event included a range of activities and presentations that encouraged safe driving practices and emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws. The students from UTAS Shinas English Club were appreciated by the Royal Oman Police for their contribution to the event. The North Al Batinah Governate Police Command spokesperson stated that the students' presentation was informative and engaging and that it helped to spread awareness among the attendees about the dangers of reckless driving. The ROP GCC Traffic Safety Week was an excellent opportunity for the community to come together and promote road safety. The event was attended by people from all walks of life, including students, teachers, and members of the public.
