The Staff Professional Development Committee of the English Language Centre hosted a workshop on 17th November 2022, titled Promoting Active Learning for Better Inclusive Teaching in Higher Education. The presenter, Dr. Said Nasser Al Amrani from Sohar University, emphasized the need for promoting active learning of students in classroom teaching, particularly in higher education. The presenter shared his research output on the perceptions of teachers about active learning inclusion in their teaching. He suggested that the negative perceptions of instructors often hampered the application of active learning approaches. Dr. Said demonstrated various methods, instructional strategies and activities on how teachers can promote active learning in their teaching practice. He reiterated that active learning encourages autonomous learning and would make university students competent to meet the demands of the job market and industries. The interactive presentation was followed by a QA session. The workshop was attended by ELC staff. Mr. Saif Al Weshahi, Head of English Language Centre awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Said Al Amrani.
