UTAS-Shinas Hosts Successful Oman IoT & AI Challenge Event: Unveiling Innovation and Empowering Tech Talent

The Sultanate of Oman witnessed a remarkable showcase of technological ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit at the Oman IoT & AI Challenge, a prestigious event organized by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Shinas IT Department. The culmination ceremony, held at the Radisson Blu Sohar on 23rd May 2023, marked the unveiling of cutting-edge projects and the recognition of exceptional talent in the field of IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Stepping onto the stage to officially inaugurate the ceremony was none other than the esteemed Vice Chancellor of UTAS, His Excellency Dr. Saeed Hamed Al Rubaie. His presence added a sense of honor and distinction to the event, emphasizing its significance within the realm of technology and innovation.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ahmed Said Ahmed Al-Shahri, UTAS-Shinas Dean, underscored the significance of the event in fostering an ecosystem that embraces emerging technologies and supports the aspirations outlined in Oman Vision 2040. The Dean emphasized that the IoT & AI Challenge was not just a competition but a platform to cultivate the talents and ideas that will shape Oman's future. Following the Dean's remarks, Ms. Amina Salim Mohd Al-Jabri, the Head of the IT Department, who hosted the event, addressed the audience. She emphasized the importance of IoT and AI in transforming industries and the potential of Oman's youth to shape the future with their innovative solutions. She expressed her optimism for the impact these talented individuals would make on the technological landscape, not only in Oman but also on a global scale.

The highlight of the ceremony was the exhibition of the top 10 finalists in both the start-up category and the graduation/final project category. These exceptional projects were meticulously selected by a panel of expert judges, considering their creativity, technical excellence, and potential for real-world application.

After an extensive evaluation and meticulous deliberation, the esteemed panel of judges has selected the top three projects that have truly shined from the exceptional pool of finalists. In the Final Project Category, the third-place prize has been awarded to the outstanding team from International Maritime College/National University of Science and Technology. Claiming the well-deserved second-place prize is the remarkable team from UTAS-Shinas. Finally, emerging as the victors and securing the first-place prize in the Final Project Category is the exceptional team from UTAS-Shinas. In the Start-up Category, the third-place prize has been granted to the impressive team from Nameer Company. Garnering the second-place prize is the commendable team from ARIG. Lastly, taking home the highly coveted first-place prize in the Start-up Category is the visionary team from Ruqi Company. Additionally, it is worth noting that the first-place winners in both the Final Project Category and the Start-up Category will have the esteemed opportunity to represent the country in Dubai, showcasing their groundbreaking innovations on an international stage.

The Oman IoT & AI Challenge event has not only provided a platform for talent to flourish but has also fostered an environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
