IT students visit Sohar Aluminum
A group consisting of eight Advanced Diploma Information Technology (IT) students visited Sohar Aluminum on February 25, 2020.
Organized by the Industrial Visit Committee of the IT Department, in coordination with the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Department of Shinas College of Technology, the industrial visit aimed at familiarizing students with Software Development Life Cycle and the actual software development procedures used in Sohar Aluminum.
During the visit, Mr. Pavan Gorki, Sohar Aluminum Systems Applications and Products (SAP) Senior Engineer, provided an overview of the company and discussed the following: Sohar Aluminum -IT Department’s structure, Business Applications Architecture, levels of application development and management processes, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package and tools used by the company, risk management processes and roles and responsibilities of the company’s data center.
Graduate Engineer Mr. Maktoum Al Khatir explained SAP-Business Objects, dashboards and report generation processes, while SAP Administrator Ms. Sumaiyah Al Saadi shed light on change management process, project charter and project management tools.
Business Applications Superintendent Ms. Afaf Al Shibli underscored the importance of soft skills and attitude, and discussed the company internship procedures.
In addition, MIS Senior Engineer Mr. Suleiman Surur elucidated the Unified Modeling Language (UML) tool usage in the software development process.
IT lecturer Mr. Prashanth Kumar Bolisetty accompanied the students during the visit.
