IT Department Orients New Diploma Students

To equip the new diploma IT students with the necessary information on the academic system, policies and procedures, specializations, available student services and support, and student extra-curricular activities, an induction-orientation program was held last Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 12:00 noon, at the College Theater. Dr. Mary Jane D. Aragon, HoD-IT, welcomed the staff and students. Then, Dr. Joey Masirag, HoS-IT, presented a profile about the IT department and introduced the faculty line-up. Afterwards, Ms. Lilibeth R. Decena, Area Coordinator for General Programming, oriented the students about the Diploma in IT program, while Mr. Faheem Qureshi, Program Coordinator for Internet and E-Security, and Mr. Justin Rajasekaran, Program Coordinator for Software Engineering, discussed the various specializations offered in the department such as networking, Internet and e-security, database, and software engineering.

Ms. Samiya Al-Moqbali, a Bachelor of Technology in Networking student, and Afraa Al-Kaabi, a Diploma in Information Technology student, shared their insights and experiences in the department. Ms. Samiya mentioned that her stay in the department is a fruitful one because she learned a lot from her lecturers and she is looking forward to being part of the teaching staff while Ms. Afraa shared her knowledge on how to become an effective and efficient college student.

 Mr. Madhavan, IT Registrar, described the academic system, related policies and procedures, and other academic matters that serve to guide the students in obtaining the desired qualifications and how to avoid academic delinquency. Ms. Amna Al-Kaabi, IT Student Services Coordinator, shed light on the student organization and activities while Mr. Gregory Danguilan, IT Clicks Editor-in-Chief, presented the latest issue of the magazine and encouraged the students to be one of the contributors. On the other side, Ms. Laila Al-Mamari, ETC Technician, informed the students of the student services offered by Educational Technology Centre (ETC)

During the induction-orientation program, Ms. Samiya Al-Moqbali and Ms. Maryam Al-Shehi, both Bachelor of Technology in Networking students, were awarded an ICDL IT Security Certificate.

Mr. Deogracias Joaquin, acting HoS-Mathematics, delivered the closing remarks. Mr. Prassana Christodoss and Mr. Mohan, IT lecturers, served as the masters of ceremonies. All IT faculty members were in attendance and lent support to the entire program.
