Diploma in IT students visit ORPIC
A group comprising of 30 students from Diploma in Information Technology II students, currently taking Software Engineering course, visited Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC), Suhar Industrial Port, on 28th November 2018.
The industry visit aimed to provide actual exposure on standards, policies and procedures on Software Development which are being observed and implemented in the Industry.
This visit allowed students to know the different software and tools being used, and enriched their knowledge on maintaining the project.
Mr. Shiva Kumar, from Health and Safety section, was the resource speaker in the first session. He gave a presentation on health and safety measures that are being followed in ORPIC. He emphasized the importance of working together in leading an accident-free working environment. Afterwards, questionnaires were given to the students to check how far the students understand the presentation.
IT Engineer Mr. Al Motasim Al-Badi gave a presentation about “Why Do I Need Security?” He explained about how to use user accounts with sense of responsibility and within the security policies.
IT Engineer Mr. Waleed gave a short discussion on the roles and responsibilities undertaken by the IT Support Section. Afterwards, Mr. Mubarak Al-Ismaili, also from IT Section, gave a short lecture on SAP methodologies. He discussed about the Infrastructure used in the company and also gave details about how attendance module is used in ORPIC.
Later, Mr. Hamad took the group to the Data Center of the company and briefed about the architecture, shown the data backup facility, different servers and services, etc.
All resource speakers answered the queries raised by the students and faculty member. Everyone was stunned by the infrastructure and hospitality given by ORPIC team.
The students were accompanied by IT lecturer Ms. Madhubala, and HoS-IT Ms. Amna Al Kaabi. This industry visit was made possible through the cooperation of the Industrial Visit Committee of the IT Department, and the On-the-Job (OJT) Department of the College.
