Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) conducted The 6th National ELT Workshop last January 9, 2014, with the theme ESP in ELT: Bridging Gaps. The conference brought together over 200 participants from various colleges in Oman. In his welcome note, Mr.Ali Mahmood Al Bulushi, Head of Center, ShCT English Language Center, aptly quoted Tom Hutchinsons guiding principle proposed for ESP Tell me what you need English for, I will tell you what English you need. Dr.Saleh Al-Busaidi, the plenary speaker, enlightened the audience on the trend setting role that SQU is playing in the field of ESP to cater to the needs of the students by developing tailormade programs and courses . Dr.Ali Al-Issa, the featured speaker, presented a scintillating and highly motivating workshop on the challenges and demands of ESP curriculum and its implications. Seventeen presenters from various colleges shared their experiences and perspectives on ESP in two concurrent sessions. These highly interactive sessions helped in generating new strategies, ideas and concepts. Presenters, participants and organizers were felicitated with certificates and mementos in the valedictory session.
