Mr. Ahmad Al-Masri, the Academic Consultant of Techknowledge Dubai, conducted a Turnitin training last Monday, February 10, 2013 at the Open Lab. The training was attended by a remarkable number of participants from various departments and centers of the college. Ms. Marilou welcomed and introduced the presenter to the participants. Mr. Al-Masri explained the Turnitin software, its interface and functionalities. He demonstrated the steps for teachers on how to add classes and assignments and how to enroll students in class. He also discussed the comprehensive application of the Turnitin software by submitting an assignment which was followed by checking the originality of the report. In addition, he stated that Turnitin is the global leader in plagiarism detection and prevention where it has an updated database of internet sites. In checking the originality report, teachers can modify the percentage of the report according to the exemptions applied for database comparison, he added. As a final point, the presenter highlighted the Help Area of the software where users can check immediate answers for technical questions. This is supported by trainings, live helps and videos which are downloadable. The presenter exemplified assurance of any support or help regarding the use of the Turnitin software. On behalf of the entire college, Ms. Marilou extended her appreciation to Mr. Ahmad Al-Masri and informed all participants that the training videos and manuals of Turnitin are available in the Educational Technology Center (ETC).
