Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) spearheaded the first-ever Seminar on Information Technology and Applied Mathematics (SITAM) 2017 at ShCT on March 15, 2017.Researchers, students and academicians from various colleges and universities across the Sultanate attended the event.
SITAM 2017 highlighted two plenary lectures and two concurrent paper presentations.This one-day event was organized and hosted by the Information Technology Department’s (ITD) Research Committee led by ITD Head Ms. Amina Al-Jabri, Heads of Sections, and SITAM Convenor Mr. Christodoss Prasanna.
In the opening program, ShCT Dean Dr. Khalid Al-Muharrami inspired the participants with his message and expressed his felicitations and gratitude to the organizers.Vale’s Human Resource Manager Mr. Ibrahim Al-Balushi delivered the keynote speech.Meanwhile, Sultan Qaboos University lecturer Mr. Francis Abraham shared his expertise as he shed light on “Wireless Intelligent Networks” and “Issues and Challenges in Cloud Computing” during the plenary sessions.
Thirty-six paper presenters delivered concurrent technical sessions attended by more than 120 participants.In the closing program, the presenters and the winners for the best paper award (three categories) received their certificates.ITD Scientific Committee Head Dr. Mary Jane Aragon announced the winners.Hanan Saleh Al-Alawi from Ibra College of Technology won the Student Category with her paper titled “Pros and Cons of Information Technology Outsourcing.”Mr. K P Santhosh Kumar and Mr. Deogracias Joaquin won the Mathematics Category with their paper entitled “Perception of Students on Student-Centered Learning Activities as Implemented in Class Session: A Study”.Mr. Rajesh Natarajan’s paper entitled “Privacy Preserving in Big Data Analysis for Sensitive Data” won the Information Technology Category. In her closing remark, IT HOS Ms. Amna Al-Kaabi expressed gratitude to the participants and presenters.
