ShCT-IT students present in 2nd SNS IR 4.0

Fifteen groups of Information Technology (IT) students representing Shinas College of Technology (ShCT) presented their research projects during the virtual 2nd Student National Symposium (SNS) IR 4.0 hosted by the Higher College of Technology on June 14, 2020.

The symposium aimed at empowering the 21st century students to collaboratively use their creative and innovative minds to think of conceivable ways to optimize technological advancements and exploit disruptive technologies in the IR 4.0 era.

Her Excellency Dr. Muna Bint Salim Al Jardaniya, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Vocational Training and Technical Education, kicked-off the event with her opening remarks, while Dr. Huda Salim Al Shuaily, Head of the Information Technology Department of the Higher College of Technology, gave the introductory remarks for the SNS IR 4.0

Students Asma Khalfan Majad Al Zaabi, Reem Khalfan Said Al-Maktumi, and Ahad Hamed Khamis Al Sinani presented their paper titled “Employees’ Performance Evaluation and Appraisal for ShCT (EPEA- SHCT), while Rayan Nasser Al Wahaibi, Noora Khalifa Sultan Al Rabei, and Fatma Said Al Abri discussed “Smart Video-Based Sign Language App: Impacts on Communication for Deaf and Dumb Individuals.” Both research projects were supervised by IT lecturer Dr. Prasanna Ranjith.

Exhibiting the paper “The Effectiveness of Exam Attendance System (EAS) using Mobile Phones and Quick Response (QR) Code for Shinas College of Technology,” students Khaloud Hamed Rashid Al Maamari and Amina Sultan Said Al Badi were mentored by IT lecturer Mr. Anthony Madlambayan, while Mr. Hariraman Ammaiappan guided students Fatma Rashid Ail Al-Rubiei and Bushra Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al-Balushi’s paper on “IoT Based Hydroponic System in Greenhouse Farming.”

IT lecturer Ms. Lilibeth Decena supervised two research papers namely: “Expert Finder through Data Mining and Training Management for Collaborative Virtual Environment among Higher Educational Institutions: An Assessment of its Effectiveness” conducted by Sheikha Hassan Al Zaabi and Kawther Mohammed AL-Amrani, and “Agrioasis: Online Farming Investment Platform” by Zainab Matar Khadeem Al Jabri, Hajer Khalfan Al Shamsi and Hajer Khalfan Al Fazari.

Meanwhile, the group of Shuhd Said Hamed Al Wahaibi and Aya Salim Mubarak Al Ghaithi shed light on “An Intelligent Voice Enabled Web Portal for Visually Impaired Persons,” with the guidance of Mr. Kumar Mohan, while students Maryam Mohammed Al Shihi, Laila Ali Al Balushi and Fatma Saif Al Saidi discussed “ShCT Symposium Management System.” They were guided by Ms. Myra Patalay.

Presenting the paper “IoT-Based Live Pollution and Temperature Monitoring System for Smart Cities” students Jawaher Khamis Obaid Al Sheidi and Khadija Musabah were mentored by IT lecturer Mr. Syed Mehr Ali, while student Hajar Said Al Mamari discussed “IoT Based Remote Monitoring of Environment Related Parameters in Smart Home Patient Health Care Domain.” IT lecturer Mr. Thanigaviel Ganesan served as Ms. Hajar’s consultant.

Students Wafa Abdallah Mohammed Al Breiki, Johina Salim Mohammed Al Shizawi and Maryam Khamis Mohammed Al Mamari shed light on “Evaluation of Vehicle Insurance Policies Based on Customer Feedback,” with the supervision of Mr. Rajesh Natarajan. On the other hand, Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed guided Shima Obaid Mohammed Al Farsi, Iman Mattar Khalfan Al Washahi, and Noof Ali Ahmed Al Saadi’s paper on “School’s Kid Safety Information,” while Mr. Syed Ibrahim Hussain mentored Aisha Saif Al Muqbali, Aysha Mahmood Al Mazroui and Rahaf Mohammed Al Khazimi’s paper on “A Novel Smart App Towards Enhancing the Language Proficiency of Kindergarten Children in the Sultanate of Oman.”

Finally, Ms. Aysha Al Jabri supervised students Younis Khamis Al Jabri, Hajer Ahmed Al Sinani and Aisha Suleman Al Mamari’s paper on “SHCT Student Counselling Management System (SSCM),” while Dr. Venkadeshan Ramalingan mentored Amna Mohammed Saif Al Mamari, Miytha Ali Abdullah Al Risi and Ebtsam Hamed Al Essai. They presented their paper titled” IoT Based Vehicles Automatic Accident Alert and Rescue System.”

Using the Zoom application, the event brought together staff and students in both private and government educational sectors.
