Oman Wins Overall in the 2nd GCC Skills Competition
The 2nd Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Skills Competition was held on March 5, 2011 in Muscat, Oman. Among the participating countries are Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates with a total of 30 competitors. They were introduced to the public in the presence of officials and delegations from all participating countries.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Saaedi, Minister of Health, formally declared the opening of the 3 day competition (March 6-8, 2011). Areas of skills competition include Automobile Technology, Electrical Installations, Graphic Design Technology, IT PC/Network Support, IT/Software Applications, Web Design and Welding. Of these skills competed, the Oman team hailed 6 gold medals and one silver. The event was closed by announcing and awarding the winners on March 9, 2011.
Shinas College of Technology joined the Oman team and got the silver medal. The winning team from this college comprises the students, namely: Shihab Albalushi, (Graphics Design) – silver medalist, Mazin Al-Abdulsalam (Web Design), Samya Al Mamari (IT PC/Network Support). They were coached by their teacher-trainers, namely Ms. Amina Al-Jabri (IT/Software Application), Mr. Omar Al Mamari (Graphic Design), Mr. Mohammed Al-Badai (Web Design), and Mr. Francis Abraham (IT/PC Network Support).
The GCC Skills Competition is one of the four regional skills that is held annually in the GCC. It enables the participating countries to share best practice and benchmark their skills in Information Technology. The Oman Team are now preparing for the WorldSkills Competition that will be held in London this coming October, 2011.
