IT Bachelor major in Networking students visit Sohar Aluminum
A group of Information Technology (IT) Bachelor students major in Networking, accompanied by Mr. Rajesh R.K., and Dr. Venkedasan Ramalingam, IT lecturers, visited Sohar Aluminum (SA) on March 08, 2018.
The students are currently enrolled in Disaster Recovery and Risk Management, and Portal Management.
Mr. Saif Ul Islam , IT Lead Engineer (Backup team of IT section), handled the first session on the basics of IT terminologies. He also explained the different types of backup techniques, network monitoring tools, and virtualization concept being implemented in the company. Finally, he addressed the queries raised by the students and faculty members.
SA’s Senior Engineer IT Infrastructure Mr. Umair Kahalid handled the second session about the Core IT infrastructure, Windows Server 2016 features, and the advantage of Skype for business which has been implemented in the company. He also gave an idea about the Data Base Server, File Server, and System Centre Configuration Manager tool for managing desktop computers. Additionally, he discussed how to manage the industry network using mobile devices with the support of Microsoft Intune tool, automation of the machines, control panel, PLC, Disaster Recovery and Risk management.
The students and lecturers were toured to the Data Center of the company and briefed about the architecture, shown the data backup facility, different Servers, and services.
Mr. Pradeep Sah Sr. of IT section explained about Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and its implementation in the Industry Safety to the students who are doing IoT based course project.
The visit provided students with a real-time exposure on disaster management being observed and implemented in the industry. Also, it allowed students to explore the different software and tools being used, enriched their knowledge on disaster prevention and risk reduction, and provided them information on how company portal and various types of communication systems are being managed.
This industry visit was made possible through the cooperation of the Industrial Visit Committee of the Department, and the On-the-job Training (OJT) Department of the College.
