Bachelor major in Database students visit Sohar Aluminum
As part of their industry visit requirement in Database Administration course, a group of 12 Bachelor students in the Database track together with Mr. Aijaz Ahmed and Ms. Lilibeth Rivera-Decena, IT Lecturers, visited Sohar Aluminum (SA) on March 1, 2018.
Mr. Waleed Al-Mamari, SA’s Lead Engineer, introduced the structure of the IT Department and the nature of SA’s business. He also gave a brief discussion about back-up and disaster recovery procedures, and cited actual implementation in SA.
Likewise, Mr. Tari Al-Zadjali, IT Infrastructure Superintendent, discussed the evolution of technology, cloud computing, data science, database software vendors, data recovery models, vmware infrastructure, and database back-up and recovery best practices. He also emphasized the nature of database related jobs, and the required skills to get into these jobs.
After the discussion, the students were toured around SA’s data center and network infrastructure.
Said visit was arranged by the Industrial Visit Committee of the IT Department in cooperation with the OJT Department.
