The Voice of Dubai Comes to UTAS Shinas
If anyone has ever travelled by Emirates Airline, Air Arabia or perhaps been shopping at one of the malls in Dubai, the chances are that they have heard Ahmed Haffar’s distinctive voice. Dubbed ‘the voice of Dubai’ Ahmed is a well-known voiceover used by leading brands in the UAE including Talabat, McDonald’s, Dubai Metro and even Expo 2020. Students from the English Club organised a live interview, supervised by the Student Support Committee, as part of the ‘Beyond University Walls’ events. Level 4 Student Utba Ali Al Waaili, lead the online event which was attended by over 200 students and external guests on MS Teams. Ahmed Haffar talked about his career journey and his desire to inspire people through his work. He encouraged UTAS Shinas students to develop their skills in using their voice and to consider following a similar career path, in the field of media, to become future entrepreneurs. The English Club students asked Ahmed a variety of questions about his talent of using his voice in different pitches and whether this skill was likely to affect his vocal cords over time. Ahmed excited his audience by demonstrating previews of his popular voiceovers, including Mall of Emirates, Du and an exclusive welcome note for UTAS Shinas! Mr Saif Al Weshahi, Head of English Language Centre praised the event, which provided a great opportunity for students to practice their English communication skills in a semi formal context and allowed the English Club students to develop interviewing skills for future events. Ahmed was thanked by the English Club for taking part in ‘Beyond University Walls’ and inspiring the students of UTAS Shinas.
