ELC Workshop on ‘Brain Based Teaching Strategies’
The English Language Centre hosted a webinar titled ‘Building Executive Function with Technology Support: Brain Based Teaching Strategies’ on Thursday, November 4th 2021. The event was organized by the Staff Professional Development Committee of the ELC. The resource speaker Ms. Rukminingsih Januarius Mujiyanto, a researcher and lecturer at STKIP PGRI Jombang, Indonesia, talked about her research into Neuro Education and how the brain works. She described the structure of the human brain and where the executive functions are located. The executive functions were listed as planning, working memory and impulse control. She presented theories and stressed the importance of adopting the Brain Based Teaching Approach in class to stimulate learning, help students prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals and to help filter out distractions. SPDC member Ms Razwana Khawaja moderated the event which was attended by ELC staff and external guests.
