ELC Webinar on Critical Thinking Using Stories
The Staff Professional Development Team at the English Language Centre hosted a webinar titled ‘Nurturing Critical Thinking Through Stories’. The webinar, which was held on 10th February 2022, focused on the significance of Critical Thinking as being an essential part of academic progress and a necessary skill for individuals to succeed in making logical and informed decisions in their personal and professional lives. The presenter Dr Desai Giri , ELC Lecturer, discussed the model and the elements of Critical Thinking as being an intellectually disciplined thought process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying and evaluating information gathered from observation, reflection and reasoning, as a guide to action and belief. Dr Giri presented stories as practical examples on how to implement the methodology of Critical Thinking in class, to promote and nurture creativity and active learning. Attendees were invited to interact in problem solving activities using stories, to enable them to reflect and incorporate critical thinking skills. Head of Centre, Mr Saif Al Weshahi and co-ordinator for SPDT Mr Given Chakalisa thanked the presenter for an insightful presentation.
