ELC holds Webinar about Re-imagining Education for the Post Pandemic World
The SPDT at the English Language Centre hosted a webinar titled ‘Re-Imagining Education for 21st Century Learners in the Post Pandemic World’ The webinar was held on 10th October 2021 and was attended by UTAS-Shinas staff and guests from other institutions. Dr Shauli Mukherjee, Director-School of Education and Dean of Student Affairs at Adamas University-India, served as the resource speaker. She explained that although the pandemic has indeed brought about many disruptions, on a positive note, we see that the pandemic has compelled educators to act and think outside the box, to significantly address the emerging complexities concerning the sphere of education. She talked about 21st century learners, often dubbed ‘Generation Z’ as being a generation of entrepreneurs, with vast skills including creativity and innovation. She expressed the need to revise and reconsider our current education system, which gives more importance to standardised tests and intelligence quotient (IQ) rather than emotional quotient(EQ) She suggested that in order to better serve our learners we would need to move away from the conventional and orthodox educational norms, to incorporate collaboration and co-operataion as two important skills sets required to sustain and thrive in the VUCA (Volatile Uncertain Complex Ambiguous) world. Mr Given Chakalisa Co-ordinator of SPDT and Ms Razwana Khawaja from SPDT presented the vote of thanks.
