ELC goes Beyond University Walls
As part of an ongoing initiative to encourage students to 'amplify their voice' and to support students' use of English outside the classroom, ELC lecturer Mr Karim Hanefioui initiated a 4-part series of interview sessions titled 'Beyond University Walls' Students from Level 4 were given the opportunity to host and interview external guests from various fields including Hawra Al Balushi, a young Omani radio presenter on Virgin Radio Oman and Chris Fisher a radio presenter. Other guests included teacher and fitness trainer Mia Katerina and Ronette Druskovich from New Zealand. Students of Section 2 collaborated and prepared interview questions for the guests and then took turns to ask questions. Each session ended with a fun 'lightning round' in which students prompted their guests with random questions and asked for one-word answers. The sessions were carried out on Teams online, every Tuesday with the first on the 25th of May and the final episode on 15th of June 2021. HOC Saif Al Weshahi, thanked Mr Karim and said that it was a great chance for our students to practise their English and connect with people outside the university, it would motivate them and build their confidence to use English. The online events were attended by Foundation and Post Foundation students as well as lecturers from UTAS- Shinas. The ELC plans to host more events in the next academic year.
